VÉLA: A CREATIVE INVITATION
Where story, sensuality, and sound collide
véla (noun) /vā-lə/
Derived from the Latin term ‘velus’, meaning a veil, or a sail. A sheer fabric that propels, or reveals.
WHY
I believe the world is starved for authentic beauty — the kind that comes from self-possession, not performance.
In an age of curated perfection, VÉLA exists to celebrate something deeper: women who radiate sovereignty, sensuality, and story.
Not just to be looked at — but to be witnessed.
Véla is a celebration of beauty – inner, and outer.
WHAT
VÉLA is a living art project — part portrait series, part mythmaking, part sound-and-vision ritual. Each featured woman will be given the title of Véla. Each Véla appears in two primary forms:
Progressive House DJ set: as a central visual and spoken word component, woven into one of my Progressive House DJ sets — an immersive, audiovisual experience. Spoken word is a big part of my work as a progressive house artist – parts of your interview – your best moments, will be interwoven into the set. (see examples below to get an idea)
Print Feature in a future edition of Soul Anarchist Magazine, comprised of a selection of your still images and a transcription of your interview.
HOW
We begin with conversation — exploring your energy, your aesthetic, your story.
From there, we craft a custom session: part photography, part interview, part audio/visual alchemy as a keystone of a future Progressive House DJ set which will be published on YouTube.
Every woman brings a different style of revelation.
Some shoots include full or implied nudity, others do not. This choice is completely yours. We will discuss your wishes in detail before a single image is made.
The common thread is truth over trend.
You’ll have final approval on what is released — always.
My role is to bring vision and hold creative space.
Yours, to show up authentically and share who you are.
- Pre-interview. We’ll meet for coffee in person or via zoom. I’ll get to know more about your story and begin crafting questions for the filmed interview. We will also discuss your shoot, including time, location, what to wear, and what your preferences are in terms of modesty.
The goal is that everyone knows exactly what is happening on the day of the shoot.
- Shoot day: I will have a plan in place for your interview. All you’ll need to do is show up and let me guide you through the questions. We’ll do a combination of still shots and a filmed video interview. Expect this to take 2-4 hours.
- Post Production: I’ll send you drafts of everything for your approval. This is your time to veto or approve what will then be included in the finished pages and DJ set.
Sample Work
Below are some samples of my photography and what you can expect by being part of this project. You will have final veto power over any image before it goes to publication in any form.
Soul Anarchist Music:
During the course of our shoot, I’ll interview you about your life, extracting the gems of wisdom that only you have. In this phase of the project, you’ll share them with the world through various spoken word segments interwoven into a Progressive House DJ set. Your images and video will become the visual backbone for the set. Below, you can see some examples of past DJ sets I’ve done. Get a sense of the vibe of the music, the essence of how the music and visuals are presented.
MOOD BOARD / INSPIRATION
Soul Anarchist Magazine is in pre-production. Below are examples of other publications that will give you a sense of the aesthetics & design sensibilities of the magazine, once it is published.
First runs of the magazine will be as limited edition, fine art editions, with an eye toward larger production & distribution in the future.
