Gunnar Olsen - Puscifer
Gunnar Olsen is an in demand studio drummer in New York, having worked with greats such as Bruce Springsteen, John Legend, and most recently, Puscifer – which is what brings us together today.
Puscifer is a side project started by Maynard James Keenan, of TOOL fame. Gunnar appears on two studio tracks and the entire live performance of their latest album, “Existential Reckoning – LIVE at Arcosanti”.
"Everybody deserves to feel the way I feel. I’ve been really fortunate to do some cool things recently… All of us have so much potential. Creative people - if we can just get past this ‘how are we going to pay the rent for the next 6 months?’, which is always hard as an artist, but feels really hard right now…. I think good things are ahead of all of us. It’s just going to take a little bit.”
New to Puscifer? Here are a few of my favorite songs. They are all very different, from crass comedy to high minded art rock. Puscifer puts a lot of energy into the visual presentation (and the jokes) – they are best appreciated in video format or live on stage.

18 Months following my interview with Gunnar, the social landscape has changed dramatically. Life is largely back to normal, and Puscifer is on tour. I caught up with the band at their Denver show at the Mission Ballroom on 6 July, 2022. Here are some photos from their performance.
